A scientific collaboration agreement was signed in Akademgorodok, Novosibirsk, on October 16, 2025 between the Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the School of Earth and Space Sciences of Peking University (PKU). This division of PKU conducts both educational activities and scientific research in which now the institute intends to participate. The agreement will be effective until the end of 2028.

The agreement outlines large-scale collaboration between IPGG SB RAS and PKU, including joint research in the fields of geodynamics, paleontology, mineral resources, petrology, geochemistry, geophysics, petroleum geology, etc.
In order to facilitate personnel exchange, and expand research opportunities, short- and longer-term exchange of PKU and IPGG scientists are planned, as well as joint fieldworks in both Russia and China, and implementation of joint educational programs for young specialists, students, and postgraduates.

In addition, the agreement provides for establishing a joint laboratory, end envisages joint participation of the scientists from IPGG SB RAS and PKU in conferences/ workshops /seminars, and joint applications for research grants of Russia and China.
In his welcome speech, Vyacheslav Glinskikh, Corr. member of RAS, Director of IPGG SB RAS noted that collaborative work of the Soviet and Chinese geologists began back in the 1950s whose active initiator was academician A. A.Trofimuk, the founder of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences (now IPGG SB RAS).

– And today, as Russia and China expand and strengthen their bilateral relations in all spheres of cooperation, we are moving forward in the direction set by the leaders of our countries – Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, emphasized V.N. Glinskikh.
Professor Shen Bing, head of the PKU delegation, made a point of the high level of expertise maintained at IPGG SB RAS and expressed confidence that the outstanding joint work between IPGG and Peking University will contribute to the scientific development of both countries and further strengthen Russian-Chinese relations.
Boris Nikitenko, Corr. member of RAS, and Mikhail Fomin, PhD (geol.-mineral.), Science Deputy Directors of IPGG SB RAS, also spoke about the great prospects for scientific collaboration activities between PKU and IPGG SB RAS.
