The IPGG Academic Council is a collegial governance body that
defines the main directions of scientific research activity of the Institute and its long-term development strategy pursuing a well-balanced policy for research and technological development;
approves plans for implementation of scientific programs and projects, as well as provides recommendations on major research initiatives;
evaluates results of the activities conducted at the Institute and its subsidiaries;
elaborates and maintains standards for hiring and promotion of academic personnel,
proposes amendments to the IPGG Charter.
The members of the current Academic Council consisting of 38 people were elected at the conference of IPGG scientists held on May 11, 2022, and approved by the order of IPGG Director No. 56 dated 12/05/ 2022, which makes the Council effective in the present composition during the term of his office. The activities of the Academic Council are regulated by the Institute’s Charter and amendments thereto.
In keeping with the main scientific directions of IPGG SB RAS, the Academic Council consists of two chapters represented by three departments formed based on the laboratories conducting research in the following areas: geology (departments of petroleum geology, stratigraphy and sedimentology); and geophysics and geodynamics (department of geophysics and laboratory of geodynamics and paleomagnetism). The Geology Chapter, and the Geophysics and Geodynamics Chapter of the Scientific Council were formed at the IPGG Academic Council meeting held on June 14, 2022. Regular meetings of both chapters of the Academic Council deal with current issues of the development of research and organizational activities in the related departments.
