The study was carried out jointly by researchers from the Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics SB RAS and the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry (ISSA) SB RAS.

The surveys were conducted in the fields of Krasnozersky District (Novosibirsk Region) with an aim to reveal relationships between electrical resistivity (ER) values and soil fertility. The results obtained using electromagnetic profiling and electrical resistivity tomography were supplemented by satellite imagery.

These data enabled generation of soil fertility distribution maps, apparent resistivity maps, elevation maps, and a soil moisture distribution map for the studied fields which provided additional information about the structural features of the studied areas. The researchers emphasized the value of the obtained data for future agricultural works.

– "Geophysical zoning of fields allows not only identifying the causes of vegetation suppression but also reducing fuel and fertilizer costs during sowing and plant treatment," noted Yu. G. Karin, PhD (Tech.), senior research scientist at the Geoelectricity Laboratory, IPGG SB RAS.

Moreover, integration of soil fertility analysis results, electrical prospecting data, and terrain information allowed extending the qualitative assessment of soil fertility and crop yield for analysis of the causes of its decline.

In the future, researchers from IPGG and ISSA SB RAS will continue their work in agricultural fields of the Novosibirsk Region.
