Regular workshops on petroleum geology continue their successful work at IPGG SB RAS. Last Thursday, Aleksandra Burukhina, junior research scientists of the Petroleum Geochemistry Laboratory, gave a presentation on her research work in front of colleagues. Her research topic is the geochemistry of oils and condensates from Jurassic-Cretaceous deposits of the Yamal petroleum bearing region (Western Siberia).

Aleksandra began her presentation with commenting the fact that large oil and gas fields in central West Siberia have been for the most part extensively developed, therefore interest in its Arctic regions, in particular Yamal Peninsula has significantly increased. According to experts, both the rational development of already discovered hydrocarbon deposits and the probability of new discoveries there depend primarily on the completeness of available wealth of geological and geochemical data. Scientists from IPGG SB RAS are also engaged in closing the knowledge gaps for this area.
Within the frames of her research, Aleksandra Burukhina has obtained new data on the molecular composition and physical properties of oils and condensates from fields located within the Yamal Peninsula. Jurassic and Cretaceous rocks of the study area were characterized in accordance with their hydrocarbon source properties. Besides, the existing knowledge of the main sources of oil and condensates in Yamal has been essentially supplemented.
This is corroborated by first ever comprehensive geochemical interpretation of massive analytical data (obtained by modern chemical analysis methods) that was performed on a representative collection of samples of naphthides and drill-cores from the Yamal oil and gas bearing region.
Alexandra Burukhina's presentation was based on materials of her PhD dissertation, specialty 1.6.11. Geology, prospecting, exploration and exploitation of oil and gas fields (geological and mineralogical sciences) and appeared to be of great interest to the audience.
Among the workshop participants who actively discussed the presentation were: T.M. Parfenova, PhD (geol.-mineral.) , E.V. Borisov, research scientist, L.S. Borisova, D Sc (geol.- mineral.), O.P. Izokh, PhD (geol.-mineral.), D.S. Melnik, PhD (geol.-mineral.), A.P. Rodchenko, PhD (geol.-mineral.), L.M. Burshtein, RAS corr.m., S.V. Ryzhkova, PhD (geol.-mineral.).
The work done by Aleksandra. Burukhina was highly commended by E.A. Fursenko, PhD (geol.-mineral.), her scientific supervisor. Also, the research presented received positive feedback from V.A. Kazanenkov, D Sc (geol.-mineral.) A.N. Fomin, D Sc (geol.-mineral.), and V.A. Kashirtsev, RAS corr.m.
