Natalia Shestakova, a researcher from the Laboratory of Petroleum Geology of Arctic Regions of Siberia, IPGG SB RAS, made a presentation at the petroleum geology seminar.

In the presentation she shared her results of many years of developing a sequence-stratigraphic model of the structure of Jurassic and Berriasian-Lower Aptian deposits for the Arctic regions of Western Siberia, which will allow a better understanding of this sedimentary complex.

Based on geological data and 2D seismic surveys in the areas poorly studied by drilling, N.I. Shestakova discussed methodological techniques for predicting reservoir properties of the Achimov Formation.

― Our seismic stratigraphic studies, which generally involve analyzing seismic data to identify stratigraphic units and interpret depositional environments, include dynamic (periods with different rates of sedimentation) and seismic facies analyses. The integrated geological and geophysical data interpretation for the areas of Gydan and Yenisei-Khatanga regional troughs allowed discriminating high-productivity zones (potential reservoirs) in the Achimov Formation, ― said Natalya Shestakova.

The presentation aroused great interest and a lively response from the seminar participants. The questions and comments from her colleagues ― A.V. Nekhaev, PhD (geol.- mineral.), D.A. Novikov, PhD (geol.-mineral.), I.A. Gubin, PhD (geol.-mineral.), M.A. Fomin, PhD (geol.-mineral.), S.V. Ryzhkova, PhD (geol.-mineral.), L.G. Vakulenko, PhD (geol.-mineral.), L.M. Burshtein, RAS Corr.Member, E.A. Fursenko, PhD (geol.-mineral.), S.V. Ershov, PhD (geol.-mineral.) ― are viewed by her as valuable ideas, which will be taken into account in future work.
