On May 14, a meeting was held at IPGG SB RAS with a delegation from Peking University (PKU), China's largest university, engaged in geoscience research that came here to discuss opportunities for future collaboration. In turn, IPGG researchers presented their key findings and achievements.
Participants of the meeting: ( 1st row): Zhang Lifei, V.N. Glinskikh, Jin Zhijun, B.L. Nikitenko; (2nd row): Li Xiaoli, Shen Bin, Liu Runchao, M.N. Fomin; (3rd row): N.N. Mzhelskaya, D.V. Grazhdankin, E.V. Sukhorukova, I.V. Mikhailov, I.N. Kosenko, N.V. Sennikov
The delegation of Peking University (PKU) was headed by Academician Jin Zhijun. In his time, he worked a lot with Academician Alexei Kontorovich, the organizing director of IPGG SB RAS who acted as an official opponent for his Chinese colleague's Ph.D. and D.Sc. theses, and also supported his candidature for election to foreign members of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Jin Zhijun recalled with great warmth the time when he communicated with Academician Kontorovich. During the visit, the Chinese delegation visited the memorial office of Alexey Emilievich and the guests laid flowers at his portrait as a sign of remembrance and respect.
Prof. Zhang Lifei introduced the School of Earth and Space Sciences of Peking University, and Prof. Shen Bin gave a presentation on geobiology and astrobiology research at PKU.

In turn, Director of IPGG V.N. Glinskikh, RAS corr. member, familiarized the guests with the Institute’s structure and provided some glimpses in its history associated with the Russian-Chinese collaboration in geology and mineral prospecting, as well as about geological and geophysical studies of Siberia conducted by IPGG’s researchers.

The presentations given by IPGG deputy directors, Mikhail Fomin, PhD (geol.-mineral.), and Boris Nikitenko, RAS corr.member, were devoted to results of related research directions they are responsible for : petroleum geology, and paleontology, stratigraphy and sedimentology, respectively.
E.V. Sukhorukova, B.L. Nikitenko, M.A. Fomin, V.N. Glinskikh, N.N. Mzhelskaya, N.V. Sennikov
Dmitry Grazhdankin, Dr. Sc (geol.-mineral.), head of the Laboratory of Precambrian Paleontology and Stratigraphy reported core findings of the studies of ecosystem evolution during the Ediacaran-Cambrian transition ―conducted in collaboration with Northwestern University, Xi'an (PRC). The presentation by Igor Kosenko, sr research scientists of the Laboratory of Mesozoic and Cenozoic Paleontology and Stratigraphy, IPGG SB RAS concerned the study of the Upper Mesozoic stratigraphy of North Asia; he also shared his collaboration experience with geologists of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The host party also took the Chinese guests on a short tour of the Institute (Sedimentology Laboratory and Laboratory of Petroleum Geochemistry ) and demonstrated proprietary geophysical equipment.

As a result of the meeting between KPU and IPGG SB RAS the new opportunities for scientific collaboration have been outlined, which includes primarily academic exchange (exchange programs for postgraduate students and young specialists), and participation in conferences and workshops, as well as in joint research and field works ―with an aim to foster the strengthening of scientific ties between our countries.
The head of the Chinese delegation was presented with the book about Academician A.A. Trofimuk and a collection of selected works by Academician A.E. Kontorovich
Academician Jin Zhijun, in his turn, handed over a memorable gift from Peking University to the director of IPGG SB RAS
