In September 2023, Polina Osipova, a junior researcher from the Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics SB RAS, participated in the work of the expedition of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography SB RAS at the archaeological sites on Domashneye Lake and Ushki-1, which are of particular interest for those studying the Neolithic era.
While working with the archeologists with an aim to investigate several sites of archaeological interest by the electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) method, Polina Osipova conducted a series of multi-electrode measurements with the Skala64k15 electrical prospecting station and specialized software
The research results permitted determining thicknesses of loose deposits (composited by sod layer, layer of volcanic ash, and sandy loams, etc.) and detecting ER anomalies which may represent the "imprints" of ancient campfires or hearths. Now archaeologists have precise coordinates to identify potential locations where to carry out further excavations in the area of interest.
In the future, researchers from the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography SB RAS and INGG SB RAS intend to continue their joint work, including also as part of the new grant of the Russian Science Foundation No. 24-28-01294 "Upper Paleolithic Mortuary Practices and Artistic Activities in Northeast Asia".
