Уже в течение 48 лет Новосибирский государственный университет ежегодно проводит Международную научную студенческую конференцию «Студент и научно-технический прогресс».
МНСК является самым крупным по числу участников и охвату территории студенческим научным мероприятием в России и СНГ. В 2009 году оргкомитет получил более 4000 заявок, в программу конференции было включено почти 3000 докладов. Работа ведётся в 22 секциях, более 100 подсекциях, охватывающих значительную часть направлений современной науки.
Участие в конференции даёт студентам и аспирантам бесценную возможность общения и обмена опытом с коллегами не только из России, но и стран ближнего зарубежья, а также публикации своих научных трудов.
В работе научного комитета конференции активно участвуют ведущие учёные Новосибирского государственного университета, Сибирской академии государственной службы и Сибирского отделения РАН. С 2008 года конференция проходит под эгидой ЮНЕСКО.
XLVIII МНСК пройдёт с 10 по 14 апреля 2010 года.
В рамках конференции состоится конкурс инновационных работ в рамках программы «УМНИК» Фонда содействия развитию малых форм предприятий в научно-технической сфере по направлениям «биотехнологии», «информационные технологии»; «медицина и фармакология», «химия, новые материалы, химические технологий», «машиностроение, электроника, приборостроение». По итогам конференции 2009 года гранты Фонда получили более 30 участников.
