The laboratory’s activities encompass both basic research and applied developments, with practical solutions validating the results of the theories.
The theoretical foundations and algorithms serve as the basis for modeling electromagnetic (EM) fields in complex geological media, and allow developing software for geophysical data processing and interpretation.
Field works are carried out within the frames of the government-commissioned studies primarily in the Altai Mountains, as well as in the Yamal, Gydan, Yakutia, and Transbaikalia areas.
The laboratory conducts research by the following methods:
These are in high demand in applied problems of geological exploration approbated as :
- near-surface prospecting methods for exploration to a depth of tens of meters;
- electrical methods applicable to a depth of several kilometers (transient electromagnetic sounding, vertical electrical sounding);
- electrical methods for exploring the deep structure of the Earth from a few tens to hundreds of kilometers (magnetotelluric sounding).
The laboratory members are regularly engaged in integrated geophysical research under various cooperation agreements in such fields as engineering geology, geoecology, archeology, mineral (and oil and gas) exploration and prospecting with geophysical methods.
