In this paper, we provide testing of seismic emission description by 2D and 3D geomechanical modeling of fracture growth. The modeling implies elementary fracture growth by an incremental advancement with the release of new surfaces by splitting nodes of the computational grid. The paper is to establish the connection between geo-mechanical scenarios of fracture growth and seismic description of rock failure with moment tensor. We show the comparison between 2D and 3D models of fracture growth and provide the seismic moment tensor inversion. The series of experiments provided to analyze the influence of initial fracture length and failure mechanism. The testing results show that both models are eligible for the description of seismic emission and seismic events generation.
