The paper considers issues of the development, filling, and maintenance of databases of research papers published by authors employed in a given research organization. Such databases should show relationships between entities within the database and links to metadata elements in external databases to enable functional search of bibliometric information with high precision and recall. It is noted that the database should have the ability to export data in the formats required for various reports. A new function of publication databases is described: popularizing and promoting publications in the scientific information space by creating open-access repositories and web mirrors. Finally, the article shares 25 years of experience of supporting a publication database at the Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences that meets all of the modern requirements of the scientometric evaluation of scholarly output and scientific potential of research organizations.
