Аннотация

The paper deals with the worldwide regularities of structural control in investigating the oil and gas fields in the covers of ancient platforms and their folded rims. Based on the results of detailed geological analysis of the Siberian and Australian platform covers and taking into account the data on the cover structures of other ancient platforms, two major types of the structural control of oil and gas field distribution, the Patom and Central-Australian, have been distinguished. The Patom type is characterized by overthrusting of folded and nappe complexes from the side of mobile regions onto the margins of rigid cratons (ancient platforms). In this case hydrocarbon fields are concentrated in the frontal and adjacent platform zones. This type of a structural control is peculiar to many ancient platforms. The Central-Australian type is characterized by the fact that two rigid blocks compress the mobile region lying between them, and nappe-fold structures are displaced, tilted, and thrusted onto the depositional basin. The Amadeus Basin in Australia may serve as an example. In this case oil and gas shows and fields occur in the central zones of the mobile region, behind the front of strong marginal deformations. It is not excluded that these types of structural control are also responsible for potential lateral migration of hydrocarbons.
