Distribution of gold was studied in low-sulfide rocks of the intrusive and extrusive facies of trap formations of the Siberian Platform and Deccan. It has been established that gold contents vary by a factor of eight averaging to 3.5 and 2.7 ppb in basalts and dolerites, respectively. Neither processes of melting of parent magmas of different composition in the mantle nor their subsequent differentiation in intermediate chambers or chambers of intrusion lead to a significant redistribution and concentration of gold. The forms of gold occurrence in basic rocks are considered. The conclusion is made that its concentration in the process of formation of basic rock series is possible only with the melts additionally saturated in sulfur and the other volatiles playing a more important role.
