Аннотация

Translations of three short essays from the Soviet literature are presented. All deal with aspects of electrogeochemistry as it applies to exploration for concealed ore. The first by V. P. Borovitskii describes field and laboratory measurements of electrical potentials induced by freeze-thaw cycles in solutions and in argillaceous rock. Some discussion of the relevance of this work to exploration geochemistry is given. The second essay, also by Borovitskii, describes advances in geochemical sampling technology in terrain covered by peat bogs and swamps. The influences on elemental dispersion of vegetative growth in peat bogs are described along with details of experiments conducted when electrical potentials were measured in tree trunks. The third essay, by S. L. Shvartsev, discusses electrochemical interactions which occur between coexisting sulfides and with moisture within orebodies. The relevance of these processes to elemental dispersion is discussed.
