The fuel and energy complex occupies one of the leading roles in the world economy, ensuring the dynamics and quality of economic growth in commodity-producing countries. At present, achieving high growth rates can create serious environmental problems, since the use of energy sources causes significant damage to the environment and determines climate change. In the work, the authors established the relationship between energy consumption and some factors for 89 countries, which are divided into seven macro regions. It was possible to determine the impact of consumption of oil, gas, coal and alternative energy sources, as well as the population, economic structure and energy intensity of macro regions on total energy consumption. The calculations confirm the fact that many countries have begun the transition to the use of alternative energy sources, namely: the countries of North America, Europe, South and Central America and the AsiaPacific region. However, the proportions of the energy transition are significantly different.
