Аннотация

The study presents the possibility of determining the thickness of the ice cover using acoustic noise. It is shown that the accumulation of amplitude spectra of noise recordings made on the surface of the ice layer makes it possible to determine the nature of the frequency distribution changes (the contact of ice with the ground) of several lower modes of compression standing waves formed in the layer. The frequencies changes of the standing waves can be used to estimate both the type of underlying medium (water or frozen ground) and the thickness of the ice layer at a known longitudinal wave velocity, and to evaluate the ratio of acoustic stiffnesses of the cover. In general, according to the obtained results, the passive seismic standing waves method has proven to be an effective tool for fairly accurate determination of the ice thickness
