Mechanical activation (MA) processing in argon environment has been studied for oils, originated from Novokuibyshevsk refinery's vacuum residue. It is shown that MA of oils in the presence of the solid phase Al2O3 leads to hydrocarbons degradation, which is confirmed by hydrogen, methane, propane and butane generation. During mechanoactivation without additives the mainproducts are resins accounting up to 12.5 wt. %, while asphaltene content does not exceed 0.5 wt. %. Products generated in MA processing of the original oil fractions in the alumina additive presence contain low molecular weight alkanes C9-C14 while in the original oil fraction these compounds are not found. Average resin molecules produced from oils by MA in the presence of Al2O3 additive, include the same amount of structural blocks and aromatic rings, as those in the untreated vacuum residue.
