The theories of origins of oil are still disputable in the scientific community. Due to the drawbacks revealed in the organic (sedimentary-migration) theory of origin of oil, it has become even more contradictory. The author argues about limited applicability of this theory, since accumulations of hydrocarbons are found everywhere in diverse reservoirs, such as sedimentary carbonate rocks, igneous rocks, etc. The offered here new paradigm of oilfield formation and dynamics (life) is based on the novel approach to the oil and gas business that measures up to 21st century realities, reconceptualizing oil and gas field as an integral live (acting) fluid-rock system, whose properties and parameters can change continuously under effects of natural and technogenic factors, in accordance with the laws of spontaneous self-regulation. Besides risks and uncertainties in the oil and gas business, a special emphasis is placed on prudent development of oil fields and their rehabilitation and replenishment.
