Аннотация

Shear-sensitive liquid crystals may be used for panoramic flow diagnostics. To reduce calibration time and liquid crystals consumption the possibility of application of the variable cross-section channel are considered in the paper. Short introduction into technique are given. The results of numerical simulation of flow in a modified calibration channel are presented. It was obtained the geometry under consideration (wedge 2.9°) permits to increase the range of the wall shear stresses more than twofold in comparison with constant cross section channel. Shear stress measurements by liquid crystals on the wedge surface was shown good coincidence with numerical data.
