On the basis of a statistical analysis of Ordovician and Silurian graptolites, several types of associations of their colonies were established and the stages in the geologic development of the Altai basin were noted. Some problems of the ecology of graptolites are considered. The analysis proposed here may permit the host rocks to be dated from the assemblages of graptolite species.
