3D GEOPHYSICAL/HYDROGEOLOGICAL MODELING AND VISUALIZATION OF AQUIFER SYSTEM BASED ON BOREHOLE DATA: A CASE STUDY IN EL-OWEINAT, EGYPT

Speaker: Ahmed El-Meselhy, PhD Student, Novosibirsk State University (NSU)

Abstract: Recently the problem of water resources in Egypt becomes very urgent especially after building the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the Nile River. Egypt is part of Sahara of North Africa, with a hot and almost rainless climate. The Egyptian deserts are among the most arid parts of the world. Egypt includes three deserts: (1) the Western, (2) the Eastern, and (3) Sinai. Therefore, groundwater is considered to be one of the most important water resources in these vast deserts of Egypt. So, it’s important to understand the subsurface structural and stratigraphic layers of the aquifer system for groundwater management and sustainable development. The study area of El-Oweinat is located in the southwestern desert of Egypt where agricultural activities depend primarily on groundwater resources. The main objective of this study is to delineate near surface structures and stratigraphic layers of the aquifer system and its effect on the groundwater flow direction based on borehole data.

Приглашаются все желающие, предполагается дистанционное участие.
