The diffusion model for long-term coastal profile evolution: Numerical validating

An algorithm for simultaneous determination of two coefficients in an inverse problem for equations of parabolic type is studied. The model under investigation was proposed by de Vriend et al. to describe the long-term coastal profile evolution. The iterative inversion procedure is based on minimization of an appropriate cost functional. Results of numerical tests are presented to illustrate the performance of the algorithm. A file of real measured data on the coastal profile evolution was processed numerically to validate the aforementioned diffusion-type model.
