Field experiments demonstrated the response of a reservoir to the injection of a portion of an acid mine drainage solution. There were two mechanisms of metal removal: co-precipitation with new-forming minerals and biosorption. Fe and As occurred dominantly as suspension, Zn and Cd - in dissolved species. Physico-chemical mechanism is effective during the first 40 hours (rate of precipitation is about 0.5 cm/sec) but one-time factor of metal removal. Biotic mechanism became noticeable since 40th hour till end of experiment (234th hour). Metal precipitated slower, but it is a cyclic process, owing to renascent of new cells. The uptake of dissolved metals resulted in fast phytoplankton mortality. A decrease in zooplankton quantity took place after two days as a consequence of a food loss. The restoration of natural conditions of reservoir is attained in 10 days after the one-time injection. But group and species composition of phytoplankton changed irrevisibly.
